Extractions
Our dentists make every effort to preserve your natural teeth. However, extractions are necessary when decay has made the tooth unsalvageable or when you have an advanced periodontal disease. When a tooth is malformed, damaged, impacted or ingrown, different procedures are used, but all extractions are considered surgery. Depending on which tooth is removed, we can offer you a replacement in the form of a dental implant or oral prosthetic.
FAQ
Do I need my tooth extracted?
When a tooth has been damaged by decay, sometimes an extraction is necessary. However, in some cases a dentist will be able to fix the tooth with a filling or crown.
What should I expect during an extraction procedure?
Simple extractions are the more common procedures amongst dentists. Using a tool called an elevator the dentist will loosen the tooth and using forceps the tooth will be removed. Sometimes surgery is necessary if the tooth has broken at the gum line or not come in yet.
How long is the healing process?
The healing time can depend on the type of procedure. The dentist will give you detailed instructions on care while healing in order to avoid infection.
